Hello, I’m Matt and I’m a documentary photographer based in Cardiff. Along with my partner Jolie, we photograph weddings throughout Cardiff, South Wales, Bristol and South West England and further afield too. Read on to discover a bit more about us and our approach to photography.
Our approach
We take a friendly, relaxed and observational approach to wedding photography, sometimes called documentary or reportage photography. Working invisibly during the day, blending in with your guests means we record moments as they happen without getting in the way of the celebrations. Through our photography we tell the story of your day from the bridal preparations in the morning through to the evening celebrations. Capturing the people, places, emotions, details and above all the spirit of your day we aim to produce stunning images, conveying the fun and happiness of your wedding day.
Our style and approach, capturing moments as they happen rather directing or staging photos, allows you to get on with enjoying your day, knowing that we are there capturing all the action and the special details that you spent so long planning.
We often find that on the day the bride and groom, being the stars of the show, seem find themselves at opposite ends of the room mingling with the guests so we also include a Twenty Two (20 minutes with the two of you!) portrait session. This takes place between the ceremony and the wedding breakfast and usually at the reception venue. Taking a few moments with you away from your guests allows us to capture some relaxed and natural portrait photos of you both. We also make time for a small number of group shots, we recommend about 5 or 6 smallish groups.
We plan our photography with great detail, always visiting the venue ahead of the wedding to familiarise ourselves with the location and running through the schedule and timings with the bride and groom at the pre-wedding meeting. This allows everything to run smoothly on the day.
Working as a team, Jolie provides an invaluable role assisting me and keeping an eye on timings making sure we are in the right place at the right time leaving me to concentrate on getting the absolute best images. As a trained graphic designer, Jolie has an expert eye for detail on the day and also brings her expertise to the design of the albums and coffee table books.
We have been privileged to photograph at some leading venues throughout South Wales and South West England including Usk Castle, Eastwood Park, Clearwell Castle, Rookery Manor, The Aztec Hotel, Avon Gorge Hotel, Mount Somerset Hotel and Spa and Orchardleigh House and would love to add your venue to our list!
